Five Easy Pieces: The design approach is structured around five interrelated topics or ‘scores’, which provide a narrative for both analysis and design – i.e., the study of the site in its historical layers and proposals for the area’s future development. Inspired by a photograph of Oskar Schlemmer’s Triadic Ballet from the late 1920s, we read the site as a constellation of multiple urban actors, each originating from particular needs and built at different moments in time. More than twenty individual actors have been identified, some existing and some new. Though viewed as discrete objects, the ‘actors’ – meeting either in, on, or of the park – ultimately interact to form distinct urban ensembles.
